Belarus' healthcare ministry confirmed the country's first novel coronavirus infection on Friday.

The National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology said that a test for COVID-19 had come back positive on Thursday, with the infected person being a student from Iran who arrived in Belarus on a flight from Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, on February 22.

He was taken to the Minsk Hospital of Infectious Diseases for tests and treatment, along with the people who had been in close contact with him, the health ministry said.

The young man is in a stable condition, the ministry added.
