Myanmar's regional parliament to reject projects not in public interest

Myanmar's Yangon regional parliament has warned that if projects being implemented by the government are found not in the interest of the public, they could be rejected, parliament sources said Thursday.

The projects would face cancellation if the new government did not agree with the projects left by the previous government, said regional parliamentarian Daw Sanda Min, who is also chairperson of the Committee for Financial Project and Economic Affairs.

Daw Sanda Min was assigned on Wednesday to lead the committee.

The House of Representatives (Lower House) also formed a 15-member Committee for International Relations with Daw Su Su Lwin as chairperson Wednesday, according to an order of the House.

Moreover, the House also formed a 15-member Committee for Ethnic Affairs and Implementation of Domestic Peace Wednesday, led by U Khun Maung Thaung.

The first session of the newly-elected House of Representative and House of Nationalities (Upper House)as well as the Regional or State Parliament started on Feb. 1.
