No charges for police in shooting death of unarmed Madison teen, more protests scheduled

No charges will be filed against the police officer involved in the shooting death of unarmed 19- year-old Tony Robinson in Madison in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, said District Attorney Ismael Ozanne at a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

At the press conference, Ozanne described three separate 911 calls, and detailed interviews which occurred afterwards, telling reporters, "I conclude that this tragic and unfortunate death was the result of a lawful use of deadly police force and that no charges should be brought against Officer Kenny in the death of Tony Robinson Jr.."

Police said that the teen had with him drugs including marijuana and Xanax at the time of the shooting.

Police officer Matt Kenny of the Madison Police Department shot and killed Robinson on March 6 after reports that he was running in traffic and had assaulted passers-by. The incident occurred after police claim an altercation took place on the stairs of an apartment that Robinson allegedly attempted to break into.

Multiple days of peaceful protests followed the shooting of the teen, including a walk out by high schoolers.

The Young Black and Gifted Coalition that had organized the majority of the protests in March is scheduled to have what they call a Black-OUT day of protest Wednesday in reaction to the decision, according to a press release of the organization. Enditem
