Yang Xiaoguang, Chargé d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, lodges solemn representations with the UK on the pretext that the UK imposes sanctions on China on the human rights issue in Xinjiang.

On March 26, Chargé d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in the UK Yang Xiaoguang met with the UK Minister of State at the Foreign Commonwealth Office and the Department for International Development Nigel Adams, and lodged solemn representations on the recent announcement of unilateral sanctions against China by the British side.

Charge d’affaires Yang stated that the British side imposed unilateral sanctions on Chinese individuals and entities based on lies and false information under the excuse of the so-called Xinjiang human rights issue, flagrant violation of international law and basic norms governing international relations, gross interference in China’s internal affairs, and serious damage to China-UK relations.

This expresses firm opposition, severe condemnation and strong protest. China's determination to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests is unwavering.

China has decided to impose sanctions on relevant British personnel and entities who maliciously spread lies and false information.

In response to the so-called "concerns" expressed by the British side over China's countermeasures, Chargé d’affaires Yang stated that China's countermeasures are legitimate, reasonable, and appropriate, and beyond reproach.

These British personnel and entities that have been countered are not exercising the so-called "freedom of speech," but are maliciously smearing China, seriously damaging China's image, seriously infringing on China's interests, and seriously undermining China-UK relations, which have aroused great indignation from the Chinese people.

The Chinese side does not cause troubles, and is not afraid of them. It is hoped that the UK will immediately take effective measures to correct its mistakes and take practical actions to create conditions for the healthy development of bilateral relations.
