Sisi, Putin agree on cooperation in fight against terrorism

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin agreed Wednesday on the need to enhance international cooperation to fight terrorism and extremism targeting the whole world, Egypt's official MENA news agency reported.

In a telephone conversation between the two leaders, Sisi said Egypt understands the pain of the Russian people after the Russian plane crashed over Sinai last month, MENA quoted presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef as saying.

Sisi also highlighted cooperation of the Egyptian authorities with Moscow to unveil the circumstances behind the crash.

Meanwhile, the two presidents stressed strong and historical relations between their countries, the spokesman said.

Sisi and Putin also agreed that restoring security and stability in Middle East countries would effectively contribute to eliminating terrorism and would help create a more peaceful climate for cooperation, particularly at the economic level, the spokesman added.

On Oct. 31, a Russian airplane crashed over Egypt's Sinai Peninsula shortly after taking off from Sharm el-Sheikh airport. All 224 passengers and crew on board were killed.

On Tuesday, Moscow said that the airliner crashed due to a terrorist bomb attack. Enditem
