The mobile phone of Uganda's permanent representative to the United Nations in New York, Mr Adonia Ayebare, was targeted for hacking by a licensed user of spyware Pegasus, local media reported.

According to local reports, IT engineers at the UN detected the hack and informed the ambassador, along with an ambassador of another African country whose mobile phone was also bugged, about eavesdropping of their conversations.

The UN is conducting a probe on the issue.
