Kardashian Kimojis release breaks App Store and raises security concerns

(AFP) Superstar Kim Kardashian's new Kimoji app is causing concerns over user privacy, after breaking Apple’s app store on Dec 21.

The app, which costs US$1.99 (RM8.55) to download, reportedly reached a record of 9,000 downloads per millisecond (via Forbes), at the height of its release earlier this week, causing the Apple App Store to overload and crash.

While Apple has now reportedly fixed the app store issues, concerns over whether the app is safe to use have now been circling based on the following warning which appears when users attempt to download the app: “Full access allows the developer of this keyboard to transmit anything you type, including things you have previously typed with this keyboard. This could include sensitive information like your credit card number or street address.”

However, the cautionary message hasn’t appeared to stem the flow of fans keen to capitalise on the app to date – which grants access to approximately 250 Kim Kardashian-related emojis and stickers, and can be used on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, and viaiMessage,WhatsApp,Facebook Messengerand e-mail.
