The accident took place at about 6:00 a.m. local time in Kong Pisei district in western Kampong Speu province when the two vehicles collided, leaving one truck turned upside down, said the district governor, Ma Savath.

"According to a preliminary report, four female workers were killed and some 50 others were wounded in the crash," he told Xinhua via telephone.

The injured workers had been sent to hospitals soon after the accident.
