Russia has tallied 5,642 COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours, raising the total number to 52,763 as of Tuesday, the country's coronavirus response center said in a statement.
The tally is the second biggest daily increase so far after Sunday's report of 6,060, the center's data showed.
The death toll climbed to 456, up 51 from the previous day, while 3,873 people have recovered, including 427 in the past 24 hours.
Moscow, the country's worst-hit area, confirmed 3,083 new cases over the last 24 hours, taking its total to 29,433.
Russia's consumer rights and human wellbeing watchdog said in a statement on Tuesday that 139,505 people were under medical observation as of Monday.
Russia announced its first two cases on Jan. 31, with cases increasing significantly since the end of March. The total number topped 10,000 on April 9, 20,000 on Tuesday, 30,000 on Friday and 40,000 on Sunday.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday that although the country is managing to slow the spread of the virus, its peak is yet to come.
Russia needs to do everything to smooth out the peak and consider all possible scenarios of the epidemic, Putin said in an online conference with officials, scientists and doctors.
