Australia's second largest city Melbourne was ranked as the most liveable city in the world for the third time, local media Wednesday quoted The 2013 Economist Intelligence Unit Survey as saying.

According to the survey which reviewed 140 cities in the world, Melbourne was highly valued for health care, education and infrastructure, nudging out Austrian capital Vienna at second and Canada's Vancouver came as third.

Australia's Adelaide, Sydney and Perth also made the top 10 list, which ranked No.5, No.7 and No.9 respectively.

The Syrian capital of Damascus dropped 10 rankings to the bottom due to the ongoing civil war and destroyed infrastructures.

In 2011, Melbourne took the champion position from Vancouver as the most liveable city for the first time and won again in 2012.
