The Myanmar government starts shutting down all the cinemas throughout the country from Monday over the COVID-19 alert, according the announcement of the Ministry of Information.

The government made the decision to focus on the safety of public health as the COVID-19 can spread rapidly through the mass gatherings, the announcement said.

It is also learnt that the government has already restricted mass gatherings and public events including the traditional Thingyan water festival until the end of April, according to an announcement by the President's Office on Friday.

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced the COVID-19 as a global pandemic days ago.
