Israel has launched a national plan for the cleanliness of public spaces in local authorities, the state's Ministry of Environmental Protection (MoEP) said Monday.

According to the ministry's statement, the program will cost 150 million new shekels (about 42.9 million U.S. dollars) for three years.

The plan includes several actions, most notably the setting of an index for cleanliness and monitoring of the public spaces, as well as giving assistance to local authorities to improve cleanliness level.

As part of the program, supervision and enforcement will be increased, and publicity campaigns will be launched.

According to the ministry, the cleanliness of the public space affects the lives of all residents.
