Many residents of Louisiana were evacuating Saturday ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Ida, causing bumper to bumper traffic on major interstates leading out of the state.Others are preparing to hunker down and brave what is being considered one of the most dangerous storms to hit the area in more than a century.

Late Saturday Ida was moving into the Gulf of Mexico, where it is shown in recent satellite imagery to be strengthening.

Ida will make landfall at the Louisiana coast Sunday afternoon or early evening as what is projected to be a Category 4 hurricane.
