Kenya reports 69 new COVID-19 cases, total tally jumps to 95,992

The number of COVID-19 infections in Kenya rose to 95,992 after the ministry of health announced 69 new cases from tests conducted over the past 24 hours.

Daily new infections in the East African country have recently declined following nearly three months of a steep increase.

The ministry also announced that six patients had lost their lives in the last day, bringing the country's total number of fatalities to 1,664.

Kenya is one of only eight African countries that have recorded more than 90,000 COVID-19 infections.

It is also only one of ten countries on the continent that have registered more than 1,000 virus-related deaths.

The country expects to receive some 24 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine early next year as the government placed an order of the shots from Gavi The Vaccine Alliance earlier this month.

In the meantime, some government-imposed efforts against the virus remain in place, including the mandatory wearing of face masks andnationwide nighttime curfew.
