16 bodies recovered after flash floods hit tourist resort in Indonesia

Rescuers have discovered 16 bodies and are searching for five missing others after flash floods struck a tourist resort in Deli Serdang district of North Sumatra province on Sunday, top official at local disaster agency said Tuesday.

Saleh Ridwan Siregar, head of the provincial disaster management agency said, "Condition of the scene is difficult. It comprises ravines and many stones and many other materials brought here by the flash floods."

He said the search operation was halted in the evening and it will resume on Wednesday morning.

The disaster occurred on Sunday afternoon when more than 78 visitors were visiting a waterfall at Durin Sirugun village, according to Darwin Surbakti, secretary of disaster agency at Deli Serdang district.
