The corruption verdict and sentencing trial of South Korea's former President Park Geun-hye scheduled at 2:10 p.m. Friday will be televised live, Yonhap reported Tuesday.

The decision is the first of its kind to allow a live broadcast of a trial if it is deemed necessary and of public interest.

According to Yonhap, Park on Monday submitted a hand-written letter to the court objecting to the live coverage. The court overruled her request due to the public attention to the trial.

Park has been charged with bribery, abuse of power and a string of other corruptions related to a massive influence-peddling case that removed her from office last year. Prosecutors have demanded a 30-year jail term for Park.
