Indonesia’s N. Sumatra regency pledges ready to host int’l GFNY cycling

** JAKARTA, Feb. 16 (APD) — **Indonesia’s

North Sumatra regency of Samosir was confirmed ready to host the 2018 international Gran Fondo New York (GFNY) cycling race with its regent said that preparations to hold the event have been designed for.

Speaking in a joint press conference with GFNY Indonesia organizer Axel Moeller and Tenne Permatasari, Samosir regent Rapidin Simbolon said that related institutions in his regency have pledged their supports for the event slated for early September this year.

Among the supports that would be provided by Samosir regency administration were the route security, traditional attractions that comprised of performances of traditional dances for the participants of the race as well as buffet foods for them, he said.

In her turn to speak in the session Tenne Permatasari said that the supports pledged by the Samosir regent has secured the main task for the event: route security.

“The coordination and tasks to assure the route security were our main task at present. The test route would be conducted in April. Those who are interested can register themselves to take part in the route test event,” Tenne said in the session her here on Thursday.

The 2018 GFNY Samosir would be the fourth for Indonesia to hold the global marathon cycling race event. It would serve as 2018 GFNY Asia Championship race.

The previous GFNY in Indonesia were held in 2016 and 2017 in Lombok, of which the latter also served as 2017 GFNY Asia Championship.

The one in 2016 was the first for Asian country to host the GFNY race.

The third GFNY hosted by Indonesia was recently held in Bali earlier this month, participated by over 1,400 cyclists from 32 countries and regions.
