MANILA, Dec. 4 (APD) – Severe tropical storm “Kammuri,” known in the Philippines as “Tisoy” left at least 11 persons dead as it affected about half a million Filipinos in a couple of days in Southern Luzon, MIMAROPA and Eastern Visayas.

Nearly two scores of homes were totally destroyed as over 450,000 persons evacuated to temporary shelters in the typhoon affected areas.

“Kammuri” which has weakened from a typhoon into a severe tropical storm, first hit landmass at Gubat, Sorsogon last Monday night, as it hit San Pascual, Masbate at 4:00 A.M., Tuesday, Marinduque at 8:30 A.M. and Naujan, Oriental Mindoro at 12:30 P.M. yesterday.

The weather disturbance is now at the South China Sea and may leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility anytime soon as it travels at 25 kilometers per hour westward packing sustained winds of up to 100 kilometers per hour and gustiness of 125 kilometers per hour.

Signal No. 1 remains in place in Metro Manila and nearby places although the weather has significantly improved.

Operations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport resumed as of 11:00 P.M. Tuesday as adjustments have been made to accommodate about 100,000 passengers affected by the 12-hour shutdown.

Land and sea transport between Metro Manila and the southern part of the country resumed early this morning.
