U.S. bans carry-on liquids on flights to Russia

U.S. security agency said on Thursday that it is temporarily banning travelers from bringing any amount of liquid in their carry-on luggage aboard flights between the United States and Russia.

Meanwhile, any kind of gel or aerosol is also banned in travelers' carry-on luggage aboard flights between the two countries, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration said.

The restriction followed a warning on Wednesday from the Department of Homeland Security that terrorists could target the Olympic Games in Russia with bomb-making materials hidden in toothpaste tubes.

Russia has already banned travelers in the country from having any liquids or gels in their carry-on luggage. But until before the new restrictions, American security authorities still had allowed a small amount to be packed in checked bags and taken aboard planes in the United States.
