Chinese Premier Li Qiang has urged efforts to implement the strategy of upgrading pilot free trade zones (FTZs) and actively conduct new explorations of high-level opening-up to make new breakthroughs and accumulate new experience.

Li made the remarks when investigating the construction of pilot FTZs in east China's Shanghai on Wednesday and Thursday.

He stressed efforts to actively advance opening-up in a wider scope, broader areas and at a deeper level, making greater progress in creating an open functional platform, industrial ecology and business environment.

Cross-border flow and management of data is currently a matter of great concern to all parties, he said, calling on enterprises to accumulate practical experience for the country to improve relevant systems and supplies.

Over the past decade since its establishment, pilot FTZs have promoted the in-depth implementation of major strategies, playing an important role in China's reform and opening-up, Li said.

Noting that pilot FTZs bear major responsibilities in the future, Li called for connecting high-standard international economic and trade rules and promoting institutional opening-up to realize a higher level of freedom and convenience for trade.
