Tulsi Gabbard, U.S. House Representative from Hawaii, said Thursday that she has suspended her presidential campaign and endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden.

"After Tuesday's election, it is clear that Democratic primary voters have chosen Vice President Joe Biden to be the person who will take on President Trump in the general election," she said in a video message posted on Twitter.

"Although I may not agree with the Vice President on every issue, I know that he has a good heart and is motivated by his love for our country and the American people,"Gabbard said.

Biden responded on Twitter, saying "I'm grateful to have her support and look forward to working with her to restore honor and decency to the White House."

Gabbard's announcement leaves Biden and progressive Senator Bernie Sanders as the only Democratic candidates competing for the party's presidential nomination.

Sanders told CNN on Wednesday that he was reassessing the state of his campaign.

"There's not going to be an election for another three weeks," Sanders said. "Anybody who suggests that at this point we are ending the campaign is not telling the truth."

Gabbard had backed Sanders in 2016, according to a Bloomberg report.
