Hong Kong's Centre for Health Protection (CHP) reported on Monday afternoon 39 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of cases in Hong Kong to 356.

Out of the 39 newly diagnosed patients involving 21 males and 18 females aged between 18 and 66 years old, 30 have travel history during the incubation period, including students who had been studying overseas, airline workers and foreign domestic workers, Controller of the CHP Wong Ka-hing told a daily press briefing.

Wong said one of the confirmed cases reported Monday involves a medical worker deployed to the Hong Kong International Airport responsible for virus testing. The patient started to have a sore throat on Sunday and was confirmed to be infected on Monday.

An epidemiological investigation will be conducted into this case, and cleaning and disinfection in the airport will be stepped up, he said.

Another medical worker at the airport who had close contact with the patient also developed certain symptoms, and has been sent to hospital for virus testing, Head of the CHP's Communicable Disease Branch Chuang Shuk-kwan said.

Chuang said that a number of confirmed patients had been to a party of over 100 people. She advised members of the public to reduce unnecessary gatherings as Hong Kong is at a critical point in terms of epidemic-prevention.
