The impact of the Black Lives Matter protests on the 2020 election

Over the summer, as the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown states and businesses throughout the U.S., protests against police abuse and racism struck the nation, following the killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor by the hands of police and Ahmaud Arbery by white vigilantes.

The protests ignited conversations and policies around racism and police brutality in the U.S., all during one of the most contentious election years in recent memory.

Jason Nicholas, a lecturer of African American studies at the University of Maryland- College Park discusses the impact of the protests, what they meant to the campaigns for the Presidency and how politicians are discussing the issues now.
