Afghan president assures Pakistani PM of diplomats' security

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani assured Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday that security measures have been beefed up for Pakistani diplomats after militants attacked Pakistani consulate in Jalalabad.

"Afghan president made a telephonic call to the prime minister of Pakistan and apprised him regarding the attack on Pakistani consulate in Jalalabad and expressed his concern And grief and assured him for more security measures for Pakistan's diplomats in Afghanistan," the prime office office in Islamabad said.

The Islamic State of Dai'sh claimed responsibility for the attack that according to Afghan officials killed at least seven guards of the consulate.

Pakistan demanded that the Afghan government investigated into the incident and called for strengthening security for the country' s diplomatic staff.

"The prime minister stated that terrorism is a common enemy for both countries and we will fight this menace together to eliminate it once for all," a statement from the prime minister office said.

Sharif also conveyed his condolences on the deaths of Afghan security personnel to the Afghan president and thanked him for his concerns.
