The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden stands by the one-China principle and does not recognize Taiwan as an independent country, White House Indo-Pacific Coordinator Kurt Campbell said on Tuesday.

"We support a strong unofficial relationship with Taiwan. We do not support Taiwan independence," Campbell told the Asia Society think tank during an online conversation.

Campbell stressed it was possible for China and the United States to coexist peacefully but the challenge was enormous.

"Do I think it's possible that the United States and China can coexist and live in peace? Yes I do. But I do think the challenge is enormously difficult for this generation and the next," he said.
