Ethiopia suspends high school instructions, large meetings, sports events for 15 days

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Monday ordered the immediate suspension of high school instructions, large meetings and major sports events for 15 days over COVID-19 concerns.

Ethiopia has so far reported five confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The measures will start on Monday, Ahmed said in a press statement sent to state media outlets.

"University students are required to stay indoors for 15 days. Religious leaders should also facilitate mechanisms to reduce the number of religious programs in the next 15 days," the statement said.
