Experts shrug off android dominance

The reign of Android in smartphones has led to concerns that Chinese companies' "over-reliance" on it might result in commercial discrimination.

Lately, a research report urged China's smartphone makers to develop their own operating system.

However, business leaders consider the situation not that severe.

They argue that domestic firms can make adjustments and innovations based on the existing Android system...instead of starting all over again.

Yang Yuanqing, chairman of Lenovo, a major smartphone producer, says the significance of an operating system is decreasing, as user's experience and applications grow to be vital.

Yang is also a top political advisor attending the "two sessions" in Beijing. He says the government should support enterprises with innovative capacity and global influence.

Lei Jun,another smartphone maker and CPPCC National Committee member, says innovations are not restricted to the operating system.

Insiders call for more tolerance towards budding innovative enterprises...as innovation requires long-term efforts.

According to statistics, by the end of 2012, Android took up 86.4 percent of China's market and Apple's iOS 8.6 percent. About 97.7 percent of home-made smartphones are using Android.
