Zero Nuke Festival to be held in Hong Kong

The “Green Peace organization is cooperating with an environmental group from Taiwan, planning to host the "Zero Nuke Festival in Central, Hong Kong.

Three years after the destruction of Japan's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, Hong Kong government is planning to consult the public relating to issue of energy portfolio. In consideration of potential damage of nuclear power, the “Green Peace organization is cooperating with the “Green Citizens' Action Alliance from Taiwan, introducing its renowned “Zero Nuke Festival to be exhibited in the Fringe Club in Central, Hong Kong.

Gu Weimu, the director of “Green Peace in Hong Kong said that Taiwan’s anti-nuclear power alliance has successfully urged the government to suspend and reconsider the construction of Lungmen Nuclear Power Plant. It also encouraged more people to express their anti-nuclear sentiment in many anti-nuclear demonstrations.

The exhibition will be held from February 3rdto 18th, 2014, displaying anti-nuclear artistic works including illustrations created by Japanese artist Yoshimoto Nara and Taiwan illustrator Jimmy, as well as the photo documentary “The abandoned animals of Fukushima, recorded by the Japanese photographer Yasusuke Ota.

This exhibition aims at learning from the experience of the anti-nuclear movement of Japan and Taiwan to express objection to the use of nuclear power. It also intended to appeal to citizens to oppose the expansion of using nuclear power.

Cui Suxin, Secretary-general of the “Green Citizens’ Action Alliance noted that Hong Kong is in a similar situation as Taiwan. So the Hong Kong government can refer to Taiwan’s example in constituting and implementing more sustainable environmental policies including increasing the proportion of green energy in the future.

Cui attended the press conference with three illustration works and handed them to the representative of the “Green Peace, symbolizing the introduction of the festival to Hong Kong this year.
