Nearly 60,000 liters of crude oil have spilled into muskeg in north of Alberta province in west Canada, the Alberta Energy Regulator said late Saturday.

A report issued by the regulator said a mechanical failure was reported Thursday at a Canadian Natural Resources Limited pipeline approximately 27 kilometers north of Red Earth Creek, which is over 350 kilometers northwest of Edmonton, the provincial capital.

The Canadian Press quoted Carrie Rosa, a spokeswoman for the regulator, as saying that officials had been delayed reaching the scene due to poor weather in the last few days.

But the report said there were no reports of impact to wildlife so far and a cleanup has already begun. Enditem
