1,776 evacuated as river bank in Myanmar collapses

A total of 368 households with 1, 776 people from a village in Myanmar's central Bago region have been evacuated recently as Sittaung River bank collapsed, local sources said Thursday.

The collapse of river bank in Kathitkone village, Thanutbin township have ruined 2,430 hectares of farmland.

There were no casualties but people in some monasteries and school buildings are still awaiting being moved out.

The river bank's collapse approached the village year after year. At present, the river bank is just 50 meters from the village.
