A German court on Monday extended the remand of Spain's former Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont, local media DW reported.

A court in Neumunster in the state of Schleswig-Holstein issued a detention order on Monday and Puigdemont remains in custody.

It means a decision by a regional court on whether Germany will extradite Puigdemont won't be made before Easter, according to DW.

If the authorities agree to extradition, Puigdemont still has the possibility to file a complaint to the federal constitutional court in Karlsruhe in order to prevent extradition, according to local media.

A vehicle, believed to be carrying detained former Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont, arrives at the prison in Neumuenster, Germany, March 26, 2018.

Puigdemont was arrested upon entering Germany from Denmark on Sunday en route to Brussels.

Puigdemont has been living in self-imposed exile since Catalonia's failed bid to become independent from Spain last October. The Spanish Supreme Court on Friday issued fresh arrest warrants against Puigdemont and other individuals behind the independence bid.
