Austrian chancellor Sebastian Kurzsaid his government is "fundamentally technology neutral.""This means that the 5G expansion in Austria will be carried out by both German Telekom and the Austrian A1, Telekom with Huawei and A1 with Ericsson."

VIENNA, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz has told local media that his country is "fundamentally technology neutral" regarding 5G construction and that he expected Chinese technology group Huawei to be part of it.

"I firmly believe that wherever possible, European industries should be strengthened and used," said Kurz to the Viennese daily Die Kronen Zeitung.

According to the report published on Saturday, when asked about "one question" the U.S. President would urge him to give a clear answer -- Huawei, the Austrian chancellor said his government is "fundamentally technology neutral."

"This means that the 5G expansion in Austria will be carried out by both German Telekom and the Austrian A1, Telekom with Huawei and A1 with Ericsson," he said.

Huawei sees Europe as a second home market, said Jackie Zhang, CEO of Huawei Technologies Austria in a guest commentary published in February by Die Presse, a German-language daily newspaper based in Vienna.

In cooperation with over 200 suppliers in Austria, Huawei has achieved a local investment volume of 211 million euros (235 million U.S. dollars) in the past five years, according to the commentary. In 2019, the amount of local procurement was increased by 72 percent.

"We have established good business relationships here and appreciate the trust placed in us. From our own economic interests, we would never do anything that harms our customers, partners or a country," said Zhang.■
