Hong Kong's customs officers have seized goods worth millions of HK dollars and arrested nine people who were allegedly involved in selling counterfeit goods to tourists in Mong Kok, local media reported on Friday.

In the operation mounted on Thursday, officers seized about 10, 000 counterfeit luxury items -- including watches, pens and handbags -- that are worth about 5 million HK dollars (641,850 U.S. dollars) in total.

Customs superintendent Guy Fung said the syndicate has been very careful not to do business with local residents.

He said the operation was the largest of its kind in three years involving 120 officers.
