Syria's Information Ministry on Monday condemned as an attack on a police convoy that killed 25 Egyptian policemen as an "outrageous terrorist act."

At least 25 Egyptian policemen were killed Monday in an ambush by gunmen in the Sinai Peninsula, which was part of the violence engulfing Egypt after a dispersal operation Wednesday against two Muslim Brotherhood sit-ins in Cairo and Giza.

"We express our condolences to the people of Egypt and the families of the martyrs and we have confidence in the ability of the Egyptian people to face the organized terrorism," the Syrian ministry said in a short statement.

The Syrian administration has a recorded history of enmity with the Brotherhood, as the later staged a bloody rebellion back in the 1980s and is believed to be responsible for part of the current crisis in Syria.
