The users of internet messenger service, WhatsApp could not send photos, stickers, and videos, on Sunday in many countries around the world, including in India.

According to an Indian Express report, “The popular online messaging service started facing some issues in several regions across the world this evening. Users complained of not being able to send or receive photos, GIFs, stickers and videos.”

“However, the messaging service was working continuously on the app throughout this period,” the report added.

In India, a website called, downdetector.in, informed that WhatsApp users started facing problems on Sunday, after 4:00 pm and by 5:00 pm a number of such cases were reported.

Whatsapp faced problems not only in parts of India, but also in Brazil, and a few countries in West Asia, including the UAE.

The company later informed through twitter, that initially they were unaware of the issue.

However they confirmed after getting it fixed that the problem that users were facing was because of a routine maintenance operation. A bug was causing the problem and not allowing to send images and videos.
