China is cracking down on Doomsday... after news signs of social unrest as a result in the belief, emerged.

Including a primary school attack, on Friday...

According to police, 36-year-old Min Yongjun burst into an 85-year-old woman's house near the elementary school of Chenpeng village in Guangshan county, Henan Province on Friday.

Min stabbed the elderly woman with a kitchen knife in the house...

Then rushed to the school, and allegedly stabbed 23 primary school students, whose ages are not known, before being subdued by teachers and police.

None were killed, but the injuries were severe.

Initial investigations found Min - a long-term epilepsy sufferer - to be mentally unwell, and reportedly, severely psychologically affected by a prophecy predicting the end of the world.

But scientists say the rumors are a misinterpretation of the ancient Maya calendar, and the sun will still rise on December 21st.

The Maya had many calendars, besides the one predicting doomsday.

China recently launched a nationwide crackdown on the spreading of doomsday rumor.

More than 100 cult members have been detained for spreading rumors and disturbing social order in the name of religion.

Including 37 members of the Christian "Almighty God" cult in northwest China's Qinghai Province - which requires members to surrender their property, to the group.

A large number of banners, discs, slogans, books and printing machines have also been seized by police.

And while Doomsday may not happen, the crackdowns are likely to last until it passes.
