Myanmar among 31 record breakers in SEA Games

Myanmar's Saw Mar Lar Nwe is among 31 record breakers of 27th Southeast Asia Games as she crossed the finish line in Women's 20km walk of athletics on Dec. 15 to renew the record of this event with 1 hour 35 minutes and 3 seconds.

Games records were broken in athletics, swimming and weightlifting. Athelets from Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and host Myanmar broke the records of these sports events in the region.

Thailand tops the list with a dozen record breakers in men and women's athletics and weightlifting while nine Singaporean swimmers rewrote the records, especially in men's 4X100m and 4X200m freestyle relay.

Four Indonesian and four Vietnamese athletes broke records in each of the three sport events while the Philippines broke a record in weightlifting and the host Myanmar in athletics.

The 27th Southeast Asia (SEA) Games stages 33 different sports events that award 460 gold, 460 silver, and 637 bronze medals to the winners.

The Games is held from Dec. 11-22 in four different places, namely Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay and Nge Saung beach in Pathein with the theme of "Green, Clean, and Friendship."

Over 6,000 athletes and officials from 11 ASEAN countries participate in the biggest biennial tournament of the region.
