The Netherlands wants to contribute to the initiative of Norway and Egypt for a donor conference for the reconstruction of Gaza,said Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans on Monday in a statement by his Ministry.
Timmermans had a meeting in Oslo with his Norwegian colleague Borge Brende on Monday. Together with Egypt, Norway wants to organize a donor conference for Gaza in Cairo as soon as a sustainable cease-fire is established.
With our knowledge and experience in the region, we can make a real contribution to the success of the conference,? said Timmermans, who also spoke with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry on Monday.
The Netherlands would like to contribute to the opening of Gaza' s borders for people and goods, with security guarantees for Israel.
The Netherlands also wants to focus on areas where it is already active and has expertise, such as the development of the rule of law, food and water.
"Now there must be a lasting cease-fire agreement,said the minister, who also expressed his appreciation for the Egyptian mediation. Then we must quickly put steps for the reconstruction of Gaza. The ultimate goal is a comprehensive and lasting solution to the conflict.
