had a notable encounter in New York City on Wednesday evening, when a woman waving the Palestinian flag jumped in the supermodels's path. Bella and Kendall were reportedly on their way to Bella's sisterGigi's

apartment when the confrontation occurred.

, a young woman wearing a gray tracksuit and carrying the Palestinian flag rushed up to the models as they made their way towards Gigi's apartment. The woman appeared to be attempting to hand Bella the flag, reports said. Bella and Kendall looked totally unfazed by the woman, and were followed closely by their bodyguard throughout the entire incident. Later, NYPD became involved when the woman was handcuffed and detained for questioning,TMZ

reports. She was later released and no charges were filed.

The woman's motives for the encounter remain unclear, and it hasn't been determined whether she was a fan or a

protestor

. Bella Hadid's father, Mohammed Hadid, is a Jordanian-American citizen of Palestinian origin. Additionally, Gigi's boyfriend Zayn Maliktweeted
