A new generation full-automatic A-type commuter train developed in Xindu recently completed trial operation on Chengdu Metro Line 18, with a maximum speed of 176 kilometers per hour.

The new commuter train, jointly developed by CRRC Sifang Co Ltd, Chengdu Rail Transit Group and CRRC Chengdu Co Ltd, is the fastest of its kind in China, according to CRRC Chengdu Co Ltd. It is also the first of its kind in the world to realize fully automatic driving at a speed of 160 km per hour based on 5G vehicle-to-vehicle communication.

The new train integrates the advantages of high-speed trains with those of urban rail vehicles, making it fast, comfortable, safe and able to carry large numbers of passengers.

Xindu district, home to CRRC Chengdu Co Ltd, is a major base for Chengdu's rail transit industry. The Xindu Modern Transportation Industry Functional Zone has gathered more than 60 leading companies in the field of rail transit industry.

“Xindu has formed an annual production capacity of 600 subway vehicles,” said an official at the management committee of the Xindu Modern Transportation Industry Functional Zone.

The district has been actively promoting the research and development of rail transit equipment and the upgrade of repair services, the official said. A number of innovation platforms, including CRRC’s southwest R&D center and a State Key Laboratory at Southwest Jiaotong University, have been established in the district.

Local officials said the district will adopt a series of strategic measures to gradually build an internationally competitive rail transit industry system.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), Xindu will accelerate the development of new rail transit equipment, and will jointly build a repair and maintenance service center with CRRC and Chengdu Rail Transit Group.

The district will also develop an advanced rail transit industrial park for the Sichuan-Tibet Railway, by joining hands with partners including Southwest Jiaotong University and China Academy of Railway Sciences.
