Indian police on Monday detained Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal while he was on his way to protest outside Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde's office in the national capital.
The chief minister was demanding action against three cops who refused to arrest some African nationals as ordered by two of his ruling Aam Aadmi Party's Ministers late Thursday night.
"Yes, I am an anarchist," the 45-year-old chief minister said immediately after his detention near the headquarters of the Indian Railways, just yards away from the home minister's office in the heart of the national capital, and urged the public to join him and his ministers on a 10-day sit-in protest at the spot. "I want everyone to come and join us for this protest. I ask the cops also to take leave and join the protests," Kejriwal added, overriding a tweet Sunday night in which he had urged the public not to join him and his ministers in the demonstration as it would interfere with security arrangements being made for India's Republic Day celebrations.
The chief minister has been demanding the suspension of the three police officers who had clearly refused to arrest some Ugandan nationals from a house in the south of the national capital as ordered by two of his ministers, including Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti who alleged that the foreigners were engaged in drug and sex rackets.
The home minister has refused to act against the cops till an ongoing probe proves they were guilty.
Meanwhile, the four Ugandan women have filed a police complaint, alleging that they were beaten up by a mob, and forced to go to hospital to submit urine samples for which they tested negative for drugs.
