The Japanese government hailed early Thursday the adoption of a new UN resolution on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) over its recent nuclear bomb test and rocket launch.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe showed his support to the resolution immediately after the adoption and he strongly urged the DPRK not to conduct further nuclear tests and rocket launches.

The prime minister also called for close international coordination so as to resolve the nuke and rocket issues, as well as the abduction issue lingering between Japan and the DPRK.

Meanwhile, Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida also welcomed the UN resolution, saying the adoption expressed the international community's resolute attitude toward the issues.

The UN Security Council on Wednesday adopted a new sanctions resolution against the DPRK with stricter measures in response to the country's fourth nuclear test in January and a rocket launch last month.

Japan has revived some lifted restrictions and imposed new unilateral sanctions on the DPRK over its recent provocative actions in last month.

The Japanese sanctions include banning entering of ships from third countries that have visited ports in the DPRK into Japan and banning remittances to the DPRK in principle.
