China is working to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian issue in accordance with Xi Jinping’s four-point proposal and the two-state solution, in order to maintain regional peace, stability and development, said Hua Chunying, spokeswoman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Hua made the remarks a day before China holds a symposium of Israeli and Palestinian peace advocates.

Nabil Shaath, international relations adviser to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and Yehiel Bar, deputy speaker of the Israeli Knesset, will lead their respective delegations during the two-day event.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will meet the participants from both the countries while Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong will deliver the keynote address at the symposium.

Both teams are expected to hold a press conference to announce the positions of their countries regarding the conflict. China hopes to use the opportunity to provide a platform for the two sides to exchange views and promote regional peace based on open communication.

Xi’s four-point proposal calls for a two-state solution based on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the capital of the new Palestinian state.

The next step is to uphold "the concept of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security" by immediately halting construction of Israeli settlements and taking measures to prevent violence against civilians.

The third step pushes for coordination of international efforts towards "peace-promoting measures that entail joint participation at an early date."

And the final step is to promote peace through development and cooperation between Palestine and Israel.
