Shanghai reported two imported cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and zero increase in locally transmitted COVID-19 cases on Sunday, the municipal health commission said Monday.

Both of the two confirmed cases were Chinese nationals who departed from the United Arab Emirates and arrived at Shanghai Pudong International Airport on May 2. One of them showed symptoms upon arrival and the other during the isolated observation period, and both were later confirmed as COVID-19 patients.

The imported cases have been sent for medical treatment, while the close contacts on the flight have been put under quarantine.

The municipal health commission said a total of 316 imported cases had been reported in Shanghai by Sunday. Among them, 33 patients remain in hospital for treatment with two of them in critical condition.

On Sunday, no new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases were reported. The municipality had reported 339 locally transmitted confirmed cases by Sunday, including seven deaths.
