The U.S. military is ferrying food and supplies this weekend into southern Haiti to help people in the region hit by the recent magnitude 7.2 earthquake.

Remote mountain communities have been devastated by landslides, with homes and subsistence farms and animals lost in the August 14 earthquake that killed more than 2,200 people.

U.S. troops and civilian aid workers will continue with the efforts for the next several weeks.
