German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Tuesday urged to redefine copyright in the digital market globally.

"We need an international law for the network," said Steinmeier at the opening ceremony of the 66th Frankfurt Book Fair.

He warned of a monopolization of the Internet by large corporations data, calling on the German and European Internet industry to face the competition with U.S. companies.

At the 66th Frankfurt Book Fair, 7,000 exhibitors from about 100 countries and regions will showcase new books and digital applications from Wednesday to Sunday.

The book fair expects up to 300,000 visitors this year. Enditem
