Hong Kong's Chief Executive CY Leung said at the Question and Answer session of the city's Legislative Council (LegCo) that the Central government has improved a lot in anti-graft and rescue work after seismic disasters, urging Hong Kong people not to harm the relations between the city and the Chinese mainland by opposing donation to Ya'an earthquake's victims.

Leung said that the Chinese government being much more effective in various ways. This could be reflected in their efficiency in handling outbreak of H7N9, and the rescue work of Ya'an earthquake. It would be unfair to overlook the efforts paid by the Chinese officials who work twenty-four-seven for the benefits of the public. Neither would this help improve the relations between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland.

Leung also said that the Chinese government is taking serious on combating embezzlement of government funds. The provincial government of Sichuan has also established regulatory mechanisms to keep an eye on the fund donated to the victims. It would be of no benefit to argue against the 100 million Hong Kong dollars donation.

"Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland are interdependent to each other. To better consider for Hong Kong ,we should be more generous and optimistic when it comes to affairs between the territory and our home country," Leung said.
