A woman and her daughter were killed in a wild elephant attack in Nepal on Monday night.

The duo died when a wild elephant fatally attacked them in western disrict Bardia.

The animal that had barged into a human settlement near Bardiya National Park attacked 37-year-old Chanda BK and her three-year-old daughter Dipika BK.

They were attacked at Geruwa Rural Municipality at around 10 pm local time.

The critically injured mother daughter duo was rushed to Nepalgunj Teaching Hospital in Banke district where they breathed their last during treatment.

The incident had taken place while the two were sleeping in the courtyard of their house to escape the heat inside.

Bardiya National Park and its adjacent area is popular for tigers and other wildlife.

Human-wildlife conflict is not a new phenomenon in Nepal, particularly around the national parks area.
