A six-year-old girl was found safe and well Tuesday night after a car thief stole her father's car in London, while the child sat on the back seat.

The agony for the family ended when Beatrice Felicia was found by her grandmother, walking alone along a road in the capital's Leyton area.

The drama started when Beatrice's father met with an unknown man at a gas filling station in Leyton High Road with a view to selling his car.

The would-be buyer suddenly jumped into the car, a VW Passat, and sped off, with the young girl still sitting on the back seat.

It started a desperate search for the child after the alarm was raised.

But two and a half hours later Beatrice's family breathed a sigh of relief when her grandmother spotted her.

The Metropolitan Police in London said late Tuesday night that they were still searching for the missing car as well as the driver who took it.

The Met described the man they are hunting as Asian, aged in his 30s, with short dark hair and a dark beard. He was wearing a dark jacket with white fur lining on the hood and green Nike TN trainers.

The child and her grandmother are Romanians.
