The Nepalese government is planning to introduce a National Employment Policy within the next fiscal year to promote youth employment in the country, an official said Thursday.
The Ministry of Labor and Employment (MoLE) said it has already prepared the first draft of the policy, adding that the bill aims at curbing the growing number of youths leaving for foreign jobs.
"At a time when a number of business sectors in the country including manufacturing and energy are facing short of manpower, our youths are leaving for foreign jobs," Suresh Man Shrestha, secretary at MoLE, told Xinhua. "The new policy aims at creating ample job opportunities at home, discouraging youths from leaving the country."
"A national level think tank, National Labor Research Institute, shall be set up to identify areas to be opened for job creation and conduct overall research on the status of national labor market," the preliminary draft, which was completed a month ago and yet to be endorsed at the ministry level, states.
The policy draft also envisages the creation of proportional and productive employment to transform the national economy, the enhancement of skills and training as per the demand of labor market and the resettlement of migrant workers, among others.
Secretary Shrestha said his ministry will begin consultations with relative government agencies and private sector representative bodies, among other stakeholders within a couple of weeks.
"Once receiving feedback from them and incorporating their comments in the draft, we will finalize it and then forward it to the parliament for final endorsement," he said.
